10 Random Facts About Me

For this year I thought it would be a good idea to add a little bit more personal posts around here in the blog. It's the Internet, so I always tend to stay away to talk too much about myself and concentrate mostly on things and subjects that I like. But I've to admit I do love silly posts like this because you get to know better the person behind the blog and get a little inside to their personality. So here it goes, little silly and random facts that I may have never mentioned:

  1. I don't mind repeating movies especially when I like it and enjoy it a lot. But sometimes I may carry away. The amount of times I've watched the movies Shrek and Tangled must not be healthy. Plus, I've watched them each in three different languages: English, Spanish & French. I think I can call them guilty pleasures

  2. Started playing the guitar at the age 12 and around two years I kinda gave up because of my little fingers not getting right some chords. Now I have an urge to get back to it but thinking about getting an ukulele instead (it's smaller).

  3. My favorite part of a pizza it's the crust.

  4. I've visited New York City only once in my life and one of my wildest dreams is to move there someday. One trip was enough for me to fall in love with that city.

  5. I like to collect movie tickets. Even thought some of them are already almost completely blank or unreadable I still hold them because...memories. Maybe I'll throw them away someday but not for now.

  6. I only own one pair of heels because I can't stand the pain. Flats and sneakers for life!

  7. My favorite kind of candy is dark chocolate. I don't actually like many sweets, always prefer sour flavors.

  8. Most things (a lot of things and situations) can make me laugh which can sometimes be awkward and for some reason it makes me still feel like a teenager. What can I say? "I like to laugh, laughing is my favorite!".

  9. I prefer to go shopping in the morning. Too many people in one store can make me feel anxious. I like to take my time to look around especially when everything is well put together and not in a mess.

  10. If I could I would eat sushi everyday for dinner. But thinking about it maybe I could grow tired of it. So let's keep it the way it is - every once in a while.
There you go, now you know a few facts about me that might not interest you at all. So sorry about that! But hope you enjoyed and maybe we could know more about each other?

Have a lovely rest of the day!

Walking through the Old City

To celebrate my friend's birthday we took a little road trip to the old part of the city. We wanted to do something a bit different and at the same time celebrate that we all finished our uni semester - celebrating that it's finally summer! It's a great place to go on a sunny day, the scenery is beautiful, the weather was extremely hot but we got through it with some piraguas (shaved ice with fruit flavored syrup). And now a week later, I'm learning my lesson that for next time to bring some sunscreen - sunburns are not fun! ouch!

Don't strive to be better than others; strive to be better than your best self.

“The way to gain a good reputation is to endeavor to be what you desire to appear.”- Socrates

Scrolling through old photos in my phone I came upon this quote, which I saved it for a reason. I'm very glad I did because it's something that I need to constantly remind myself. Don't worry, I'm not going to get too "deep" and serious in here. I like this blog to have a positive atmosphere, but I thought I might share it because maybe someone out there, just like me, needs to be reminded of how important you really are and never hide to be yourself. I think it's okay to have role models to look up to, but never forget that we all different individuals with the potential to do great things and be our own person. It's a little difficult when society wants something from you or people telling you how you must live your life. And again, that can be good but sometimes I feel like I can 'lose myself'. This is only a small reflection that I had this morning - try to do your best, do the things you love and truly care about and never give up

{Dreaming} I would like to be outdoors in the nature, where there is green grass, feel the warmth from the sun and later at night look at the sky and appreciate the light and forms of the stars. It makes me feel at peace in those moments when I realize how tiny I am in this universe.

Thank you for reading & have a nice Tuesday!

Sunny Sunday

Since my birthday was on a Sunday, I decided to go out and celebrate with my family. What an amazing luck we had that it was very sunny and warm to go outside and take a walk...because that what we did all afternoon. We went to a few 'tourist' or very well known places of the city to take photographs and look around in the shops. At the end we ended up at the beach and thought "Why we didn't bring bathing suits?" For next time! But we refreshed with ice cream, water and bubble tea. First time trying the bubble tea and loved it! I tried a Honey Lemon Black Tea with boba and it was very nice, refreshing. And forgive my awkward photo 'self', tried to do an 'outfit of the day' but as you can see I failed... (not used to being in front of the camera!).

Hope you're enjoying your week!

It is almost impossible to watch a sunset and not dream

Recently, this is how most of my rides to home from uni looks like - watching the sunset with a clear sky. It's been a while it looked this beautiful, winter weather is always cloudy or raining. I like how  we're getting earlier sunrises and late sunsets. Preparing myself for the spring/summer weather! Hope you're having a lovely weekend and hopefully warm weather and enchanting sunsets.

Oh Christmas tree, Oh Christmas tree!

For every year the Christmas tree,
Brings to us all both joy and glee.
Oh Christmas tree, Oh Christmas tree,
Much pleasure do you bring me!
 --
It's finally finished! It took us a little bit longer than usual (it took two days decorating this baby). But the mess we did and the time it took was all worth it in the end and really fun. Now it feels very 'Christmas-y' around here. Plus the weather is getting a little bit chilly which I love but it's making it a bit difficult to wake up early in the morning (especially if it's Monday!). Now only 23 more sleeps!

The tans will fade, but the memories will last forever

First of all, sorry for posting all this pictures in only one post. I know yikes! But I couldn't decide. I hope you don't mind. Secondly, summer is soon about to end (even if it doesn't feel like it yet). Kind of sad but overall I can say I'm really happy in how my summer vacation turned up to be. I don't consider myself a "summer girl" since I live in the tropical and over here the weather goes crazy hot! But I did a lot of stuff I've never done before and got out of my comfort zone a lot of times. I could say I spent almost every week on a different beach (that's really weird for me), went hiking two times and the second one left me dead tired! But it was lot of fun and now it seems it's time to move on. I'm already back to school (back to reality) and ready for fall. See you next year summer!

xx

Side note: So I'm going to add this so if anyone who is reading knows about cameras and would like to help me, please do! At the moment my only two cameras are broken (one is a SLR who decided to die and the other doesn't stay on for very long). So I decided to look for something on the market and the dilemma of which model to go for drives me a little insane. I wish I could say "Yeah, I will have a DSLR camera" oh I wish but sadly I'm on a student budget and I want something like for now! Anyway if you have any suggestion, i will be happy to read them. Thanks! :)

Now i'm a bit wiser

maybe not wiser but older. On saturday i celebrated my 21st birthday (yikes!) with a little get-together with friends and family. It was very lovely to see everyone, have a great laugh at silly things and stories and of course eat a lot of yummy food. I made this chocolate raspberries cupcakes and i'm very pleased in how they came out. It's kind of sad that i didn't take many pictures of the party - i just enjoyed the moment and had a little off time from uni/work/stress. I must admit i'm kind of nervous of whats to come at this new chapter in my life, just taking baby steps into the "real world" and what society calls, adulthood. It seems exciting and scary at the same time!

Can words describe the fragrance of the very breath of spring?

The start of another month already?! I'm not sure, but 2013 is flying by to fast for me. Even the weather is changing to fast for my liking. I actually like the winter weather (just in case i live in a tropical weather) and i'm not looking forward to the heat of the summer. But i will try to look the bright side of things, like Spring is almost here and i love it! I love seeing flowers bloom, the smell and how it decorates the streets with different colors and the sight of it can bring a smile. Another favorite is the celebrations! A lot of birthdays this month including my sisters and mine and even my dogs. Wooray! Oh, and not to forget spring break - i really need it, like now! Really looking forward to a lot of exciting things and adventures to come but i'm sure i'm going to miss the winter.

Any exciting adventures for this month?
Take care!

P.S. The photos are from my Instagram (@cristiland)...just in case.
Book reading update (if you're interested): Just finished reading Perks of being a wallflower & the series of L.A. Candy. Yesterday i started Game of Thrones. Could do a book post very soon maybe at the end of the month.

Just taking some time...

I've heard organization is the key to success. I don't know if that's entirely true but in times like this it works for me. I'm a full time student, so to keep up to date with my work i need to be organized or otherwise everything will become a huge mess. I thought i will share how i keep (or at least try) myself organized. The most important thing in my life (ok, maybe it's not the 'most') is my agenda. I write everything in it! from school work, appointments, birthdays, anniversaries, shopping list, you name it. Every morning before going out of my house to the real world i always check the agenda to know if i'm on the right track and it has saved me lots of time and then i check it again before going to bed...you never know if i haven't done an assignment due for the other day. yikes! Another thing is i always keep a calendar besides my bed with very important dates like a "Biology test" - that's very important to me and it reminds me i need to study everyday. Or if i'm feeling i'm going to forget something i like to leave notes and stick them somewhere i can see them. And to finish, if the others don't work, an alarm! Oh yes, to put an alarm 5 minutes before my favorite tv show shows a new episode its very, very important! haha. No, really it works to put alarms in my phone and that way i can be always on time. Well i hope this post "helped" or inspire you even just a little. I'm going to have a huge/horrible test this monday so that's why theres have being a lack of post around here. I'm freaking out a little bit but hopefully everything will be good and done by the afternoon and then after is all done i may treat myself with some "New Girl" episodes and hot chocolate. Yes, that could work to calm my nerves.

Living in a little city by the sea

Hello lovely people! How did your week started? Yesterday I went for a walk through the town since I wanted to take a little break from my studies and the weather was nice to go outside - after the rain passed. Well I admit I really wanted to take these shoes for a walk. Got this glittery shoes last week when I saw them on sale at Aldo. The gold color is so pretty and for the price I had to take them. I'm very glad I did, they look so cute and are very comfortable which is a plus since I love to feel comfy. Sorry about the qualities of the photos, made the mistake in leaving my camera so I had to take this with my phone. A part from the bad quality, I'm very pleased I got a few lovely shots of the place.

Brighter days

Is it me been whiny or moving really is a tedious task? Yes, I moved recently (this is my second week) to a new apartment. I'm not completly free to do what I want because it's part of my university campus residencies, but it's my own little space away from home. I've lived in the same room for the last two years, so this is the first time living in a different place and it feels so weird. Maybe when I give it a little love and set all my stuff in place it will feel much better. At least today's lovely weather is helping too. In the pictures I give you a sneak peek of what I've captured from last week. The rest is still a mess with boxes still unpacked. Yikes! Better work on that very soon.

Have a nice week!

"In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: it goes on."

Today, I was going to do a blog post of a review, but things changed this morning when I saw a video. I just want to share a video made by the lovely blogger Louise, best known as Sprinkle of Glitter. The video is about a tag and at first I thought I wasn’t going to like it (I'm not a fan of some 'tags' videos), but I’m glad I did watch. First, I love her bubbly personality. She seems like a nice and happy person, which it makes it interesting and fun to watch her videos. Second, I loved when she mentioned her love for science and how she incorporates that into her life. How when she is going through something that day she likes to go outside and think how huge the universe is compared to her tiny problems. Ok, I got excited when I heard that because (not only because I love science too) I thought I was the only one who did that. Every time I get overwhelmed with personal issues, school work, and any other thing that bothers me, I like to go outside at night. I like to just lie down and look up and think “Wow! Look how huge the universe is and I’m here complaining about something very insignificant.” Because most of the time it is! Sometimes, when we complain and are blinded with anger we don’t realize at the time how beautiful life is - including the bad moments. I’m the kind of person who thinks that we only live once so why be angry all the time? Yes, I do believe things happen for a reason and for the better. The world is huge, there are billions of people in this planet and we have to realize that the “world isn’t against us”. We all go through bad times. It’s normal. That’s life. But the point is that if you’re going through hard times I hope you understand that things will get better. Tomorrow will be another day and things will change if you make an effort to stay and be positive. Nothing stays the same and we change all the time.

Anyway, now I’m rambling. But I think that’s it. This is my way of thinking, but I’m a very open minded person. So if you want to share something, you’re welcome to comment. And you can see the video here. Don't worry, it's a fun tag video.

Hope you have a nice day!
& here a cute picture:
