100 days

I finally visited my family and friends in Puerto Rico 100 days after the passing of hurricane Maria. It is a relief to say they are safe and healthy, but just like many in the island they were affected by the damage caused from this natural disaster. Not only the architecture and surroundings look different from destruction but how their everyday life has changed. Things are progressing but at a very slow passe, the majority of the island is still without power, people have lost their jobs and many professionals and students have left sadly for better opportunities abroad. It really hit me when I arrived how things were not the same anymore.
I just hope things get better with time and the people in need receive the help to find home and safety. Even at this difficult times people are still marching forward and that was a beautiful sign. It was nice to hear people were helping each other with their needs and support during the first few days, which were horrible without communication to know about your loved ones. But as for today lets keep things positive and not let this get us down. Everyday is a new day, the sun still shines bright, the trees are growing and the birds are still singing. That is very nice, indeed!

In the Middle of Nowhere

In the middle of nowhere, but we knew where we where. Get it? This is one of those spots that people/locals seem to know about but they are kind of secret places.

Never Stop Exploring
The day started grabbing a cup of coffee with my mother, again a little spot in the mountains that from the outside looks like a bar, you enter and see a small supermarket than if you keep walking you will see the cafe. Very small and compact but really nice. I'll share some photos in another post. It was like a 30 minute car journey from my house for just a cup of coffee, but worth it - amazing and very inexpensive! After our little coffee break we asked for directions for this peculiar place and five minutes later we were there. It is essentially an under-construction bridge. Something I didn't expect is how calm and therapeutic it felt to be there. Since it is a desolated area it was very quiet and the only thing you could hear were birds singing, flying through the trees and the flow of the water from the river. Kind of upset that the part of the bridge is closed but as for now it's painted with the words "I love you". Sweet!

Hopefully I can go back soon! Of course, if they haven't finished it. It's always nice to do a little exploring around, ask for directions or places that people love and find something like this. This doesn't happen everyday. Hope you enjoy the photos!

 Have a nice weekend!

Capture the Good Times

Doing my yearly "new year cleaning" I found my old phone which I completely forgot that I had left it in the closet for someday transfer all the photos to save them. But of course, never did...until today! What a special surprise I had to see all these photos that I kind of forgot about them and it was great to go through them and have a little laugh.

Something I do regret a bit is in not investing in a good camera. Why did I waited for so long?! It makes me want to go back to these places and take a better shot. Even though the quality is not that great I still love them. The charm and beauty behind these photos are more for the stories behind them. The memories that brings me just by looking at them, it reminds me of the time spent with friends and family. For example, the second photo I remember that I was in pain! We had been walking for about, I don't know, three hours and I was exhausted. I took the photo while I was taking a break on the floor. Also remember been annoyed with my friends because for some reason they weren't tired and continued walking. haha And if you're wondering, yes the hike was worth the pain! Beautiful view at the top, maybe I should look for those photos. Good times!

For the Coffee Lovers

I’m loving this idea of taking mini road trips in the summer instead of doing the usual: staying at home, reading and going to the beach. It’s fun to get out and go to different, unusual places and enjoy the beautiful things that your hometown can offer. Just because we live here doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy it. Plus it’s fun to act like a 'tourist' when going to these places.

Last week we took another short road trip, and by we I mean my mom, sister and I. Like coffee lovers that we are, if you haven't noticed that I post a lot of coffee related stuff, we went to this little coffee museum located in the mountains. My mom knew about this place for a while and wanted to have a look. I’m glad we did! It was very interesting knowing a little inside in how coffee grounds are made, how different they are and taste differ depending on the country and the different ways to brew it. At the outside of the museum (didn't take much pictures inside) they have a little shop where they serve...coffee. Since it's located in the mountains it has  a great view. It’s a nice place to sit for a while, enjoy the view, have a chat and drink amazing coffee. It was a very hot day so we decided to go for an iced latte that was delicious. I could say one of the best iced lattes I ever had, the taste was just perfect. Pretty sure we are going back very soon.

Here's to New Adventures

“The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.”
― Eleanor Roosevelt
Sometimes I forget how beautiful my little island is and the little adventures that can bring. For now maybe I can't travel the world, but at least I can go out for a walk and look for something new. For this summer (and rest of the year) I want to push myself out of my comfort zone. So here's to new adventures!
